Welcome to our Class 1/2 Page!
Miss Bentley and Miss Parkin
This year Miss Bentley and Miss Parkin are your child’s class teachers and Mrs Kelsall is the teaching assistant.
The school day starts at 8:45am and learning starts immediately after so it is vital that children arrive on time. The school day ends at 3:05pm.
This term our topic is ‘Bright Lights, Big City!’’. Within this topic, children will be identifying the key features of a city. They will learn about London and compare it to Sheffield. We will read stories of Paddington Bear’s London adventures and learn about the famous landmarks he has visited. In Art and Design, the children will use clay to create a sculpture of their favorite London landmark. In History, the children will learn about the British Monarchy and will be able to identify key members of the Royal family.
PE – Our PE days are every Monday and Friday. Please ensure that children have both an indoor and an outdoor PE kit. We recommend that your child has their PE kit in school all week, just in case we manage to sneak an extra session in!
Homework – Homework is handed out every Friday (when possible) and is due in by the following Wednesday. Please ensure that you do your homework at home as it ensures that you get extra practice. It’s so important! Homework will consist of spellings, reading and maths homework. Children will also have a termly topic project to complete which hopefully will encourage them to be imaginative and creative.
Reading books – Children need to bring their reading book and reading diary to school every day. They will read to an adult at least once a week. Children are encouraged to read at home at least 3 times a week. When your child reads, please make a note in their reading diary as your child is rewarded with a dojo and a sticker for their reading chart.
