Welcome to our Year 1 Page!
This year Miss Bentley is your child’s class teacher and Mrs Kelsall is the teaching assistant.
The school day starts at 8:50am with the classroom doors opening at 8:45am. Registration is at 9:00am and learning starts immediately after. The school day ends at 3:00pm and children will need to be collected by an adult from the main entrance.
If you would like your child to be collected from school by someone other than yourself then you must inform the office staff or the classroom teacher.
Our learning so far
So far, Year 1 have learned all about sea creatures and pirates in our topic ‘What lies beneath?’. They were absolutely fascinated when they were finding facts about a scary well-known pirate called Blackbeard! Year 1 have also learned all about different sea creatures that live in the sea and how they are adapted to living there. We LOVED reading the Rainbow Fish and the children enjoyed helping to sew a collage of the Rainbow Fish using different materials.
We have just started our new topic of ‘On a Safari’ and we are very excited to visit the Wildlife Park!
PE – Our PE day is every Tuesday. Please ensure that children have both an indoor and an outdoor PE kit. We recommend that your child has their PE kit in school all week, just in case we manage to sneak an extra session in!
Homework – Homework is handed out every Friday (when possible) and is due in by the following Tuesday. Please ensure that you do your homework at home as it ensures that you get extra practice. It’s so important! If children do not complete homework then they will complete it during playtime. Homework will consist of spellings and another piece (reading, writing, maths or topic). Spellings are important and will help children with their writing. Children will have a spelling test on a Friday to check that they have learnt them.
