Class 1

Welcome to our Class 1 Page!

Your child’s teacher is going to be Mr Thomas. We are all very excited for your child to join us and are looking forward to learning together in our new class!

Meet your Teachers

Hello, my name is Mr Thomas and I am so happy to be the year 1 teacher! I love coming to school, it’s such a wonderful environment to learn and experience new things every day. I enjoy getting practical in the classroom and love creating big experiences for my students to remember. There’s never a dull moment in year 1!

When I’m not at school, you can find me (if I’m not lost) hiking in the Peak District with my wife and friends. My favourite kind of hike involves lots of climbing and things to jump over. One of my other interests is music, I play several string instruments and enjoy messing around with weird and wonderful noises that I’m sure my neighbours also love!

I sometimes like to combine my love of music and teaching and like to bring a ukulele to school and sing some songs with the students, It’s really wonderful.

Our New Learning

This year we have a fantastic new curriculum planned with lots of exciting learning through a range of different subjects. We will be writers, mathematicians, scientists, historians, geographers and artists to name just a few of the different roles that we will have. You will be working cooperatively in your teams and using the cooperative learning strategies to help you learn and be successful in your lessons. We are really looking forward to the learning opportunities that we have planned!

Class Information

This is given out every Friday and needs to be handed in by the following Wednesday. Please ensure that you do your homework as it ensures that you get extra practise of what we are learning at school. Homework will normally consist of spellings and some maths work. Children will also have a termly topic project to complete which hopefully will encourage them to be imaginative and creative.

We ask children to practise their reading book for 10 minutes each night as this will help them to become more fluent and ,confident readers.

We take part in PE lessons each week and ask children to arrive in their PE kit. They will need both an indoor and an outdoor kit. We will be in touch to arrange your child’s PE days once they are settled back into school.
