Learning in Y1!

Y1 have hit the ground running in Lapwings Class! The children have settled well and are enjoying their time at school.

In English lessons, they have begun with ‘The Gingerbread Man’ and have learned the story with actions. They have already written about the characters and are working towards writing a retelling of the story. The children have also been working hard on their phonics and reading both at home and at school!

In Maths, their first few lessons have been about counting, ordering and place value. The children have worked on counting forwards and backwards from 10 and 20, they then placed numbers in order on a number track, and represented numbers using ten-frames, rekenrek and cubes.

In Science, they have been learning about animals and their characteristics. To help with this, they have sorted animals into the categories: birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and fish.

They are also learning about past schools in History, so they’ve been looking at some old photos of Thrybergh Primary to see how it’s changed. They also sorted statements about the school building into past and present.

Their Geography work has been about where we are in the world, including naming the countries and capital cities of the UK.

Well done Y1, you are absolute superstars!
