Flexible Partitioning in Y4/5

Recently, Year 4/5 have been learning about flexible partitioning in Maths. Using Dienes, the children built numbers and explored different ways of partitioning the same number. They moved the hundreds, tens and ones to create different combinations while keeping the total value the same.

They then recorded their different ways of partitioning numbers using numerals. Using the Dienes helped pupils to see how numbers can be broken apart and recombined in different ways. Fantastic mathematical thinking, Y4/5!
