Welcome

to Year 3/4

Mr Banks

Meet your teachers

Hello Thrybergh Primary School!

My name is Mr Banks and I am looking forward to joining Thrybergh Primary School this September! I will be entering my 9th year of teaching, with most of my experience being in Lower Key Stage 2, as well as a recent time in Year 1. My favourite subject to teach is History because I think there is so much to learn from our past that help us make better decisions for our future. I love teaching Music as well – I spent a lot of time in my old school helping other teachers teach Music and I love seeing pupils perform as it gives people such a confidence boost!

I live in Rotherham with my wife and son, as well as two cats and a tortoise. I have always been a lover of animals and believe that caring for pets is one of the most important things a person can do. My hobbies include reading, (especially fantasy and sci-fi novels), running and painting Warhammer Miniatures.

I am looking forward to being a part of your wonderful school and I hope I will make a positive difference to the community of Thrybergh!

Meet Your Teaching Assistant

Chritmas is my favourite time of the year snuggled up with a hot chocolate watching a Christmas movie and the twinkly lights on the tree. Can not wait to see you all in September to start our exciting new journey.

School Day Times
Our school day begins promptly at 8:40am and finishes at 3:15pm.
Please arrive on time, ready to learn and make the most of each day.

Our Daily Routine
Each morning, we start with Reading, Writing, and Maths to build strong foundations.
The rest of the day is packed with creative, active, and hands-on learning across a wide range of subjects.

Reading in Class and at Home
We have a cosy Reading Corner in our classroom where children are encouraged to choose from a selection of high-quality class texts to enjoy throughout the week.

Reading every night at home is essential to support your child’s progress. We ask all parents to please sign up to BoomReader, our electronic reading diary, so we can easily keep track of home reading together.

Home Learning Tools
Children will be given logins for a range of exciting online learning platforms:

TTRockstars – to boost times tables recall

IXL – for extra practice in Maths and English

Lexia – to support reading and comprehension

Please encourage your child to use these at home regularly.

PE Kits
Please ensure your PE kit is in school every day, as we’ll be taking part in regular physical activity throughout the week.

We’re looking forward to a fantastic year of learning, growing, and achieving together. Let’s make it the best year yet!

Areas of Learning

Get ready for an exciting year of stories, adventures, and imagination! In Class 3/4, we’ll be diving into a wide range of high-quality texts that will help us become confident readers and creative writers.

We’ll be reading classic and modern stories, exploring how authors bring characters and settings to life. Through drama, speaking and listening, and visual prompts like short films and powerful images, we’ll get inspired to write our own stories — from mysterious adventures to diary entries written in role as our favourite characters!

But it’s not just fiction — we’ll also become expert fact-finders! Using non-fiction books and fascinating film clips (like nature documentaries), we’ll write clear, engaging reports and explanations that link to our learning in science and geography.

Throughout the year, we’ll write persuasive adverts, heartfelt letters, and even explore different character viewpoints. Whether we’re describing a Stone Age cave, writing as an inventor, or campaigning to help the planet, our writing will be full of purpose and creativity.

This year is all about developing a love of reading, building writing confidence, and most importantly — having fun with words!

This year in Geography, we’ll explore the Peak District, look at UK Cities and Climate Change, and study the River Nile.

In History, we’ll travel back in time to learn about the Anglo-Saxons, Vikings, and explore the fascinating worlds of Ancient Egypt and the Indus Valley.

For more information, please see our school website.
