Welcome
to Year 1

Mrs Levesley
Meet your teachers
MRs levesley
Hello! I’m Mrs Levesley and I’m really excited to be teaching Y1. I can’t wait to get to know you all. My favourite thing about Y1 are the lightbulb moments when the learning just clicks and you find you can do something all by yourself. I love books and stories, so we’ll share lots of those next year. I also love to sing and I’m part of my local community choir. I enjoy the great outdoors and going for walks with my family – my husband and two grown up sons. We have lots of exciting things to learn about in Y1 and I can hardly wait to get started. See you soon!
Meet your teaching assistants

Mrs Kelsall
Hello my name is Mrs. Kelsall!
Outside of school I am a passionate crafter with a particular love for card making. Whether it’s a birthday, Christmas, wedding or just a thoughtful note, I believe a handmade card adds a special touch that can’t be replicated. Crafting has always been more than a hobby for me, it’s a way to relax. Outside of the craft room, I love to explore the UK. I love discovering charming villages and historic landmarks with my family. You are going to have such a fun time in year 1 and I can’t wait to help you all.
Class Information
Our classroom is next door to our beautiful library. When you come into the classroom, you’ll be able to find your own drawer, where you can keep your book bag. You will have your own place to sit each morning and one of your first jobs is to find your lego brick and vote for your choice of story for the end of the day. You might sit in different places for some learning. We have a big carpet area, where we can all sit together, just like in foundation. We’ll have lots of fun and learn so much in Year 1!
Areas of Learning
In Year 1, we have a big focus on phonics and early reading. Our aim is that every child will know all their phonemes and be able to blend them as quickly as possible, so that they can begin to read with increasing independence and fluency. We read lots in Y1, both the books we can read ourselves and beautiful picture books and stories that we share together. We’ll develop our writing skills, so that we can say a sentence and then use our segmenting skills, handwriting skills and our knowledge of sentences to write it down. By the end of the year, we’ll be writing stories and much more. We have lots of lovely maths resources that we use every day, which helps us to build on our number sense, so that by the end of the year we’ll be confident to add and take away with numbers up to 100! We’ll learn about science, history and geography, as well as PE, music, RE and PSHE. We’ll have so much fun as we learn together!
