Mrs Whelpdale
Meet your teachers
Mrs Burnett
Hello! My name is Mrs Burnett and I am really looking forward to teaching you all day on Monday and Tuesday and also on Wednesday mornings. Year 2 is my favourite year group to teach so I know we are going to learn so much and have so much fun! I am looking forward to getting to know you all and find out what kind of things you enjoy. I love going to the gym, taking my dachshund, Benji, for a walk and spending time with my husband and grown up son, Elliot. Reading is one of my favourite things and I love writing too, so I can’t wait to share some of this with you! I also love music and playing the piano, which I have done since I was 4 years old! I hope everyone has a lovely summer break and comes back excited to start a new adventure in Year 2 in September!
Mrs Whelpdale
Hello! My name is Mrs Whelpdale and I have been teaching for 19 years but it is my first year working with the wonderful team at Thrybergh. I am looking forward to teaching you on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. One of my favourite things to do is reading. I look forward to finding out who your favourite authors are and what type of books you like to read. I also enjoy going for walks with my family: my husband, son and and daughter. I have a house rabbit called Pumpkin and a tank full of interesting water creatures. I wish you all a wonderful summer and I look forward to teaching you in September.
Meet Your Teaching Assistant

Mrs Everitt
Hello. My name is Mrs Everitt and I am looking forward to helping you with your learning in year 2. Here is a little bit about me: I have a springer spaniel named Pixel. She loves to go swimming and get very mucky! We enjoy taking Pixel for walks on the beach and in the woods. I absolutely love reading and one of my favourite stories to share with children is The Three Billy Goats Gruff. In my free time I enjoy doing jigsaws and building Lego sets. I can’t wait to start our adventure together in Year 2.
Class Information
Our classroom is right next door to Year 1. You’ll find lots of helpful information on our display boards to support you with your learning.
In our cosy reading corner, there’s a big bean bag where you can relax and enjoy a book from our Year 2 reading spine. You wil have your own drawer to keep your reading book safe, and your water bottle will be stored on a shelf in our wet area.
Each table has a basket filled with the equipment you’ll need for our lessons. You might sit in different places throughout the day so you can work with a variety of friends. We love working as a team, and you’ll have lots of opportunities to share ideas, help each other, and learn together.
Areas of Learning
In Year 2, you will build on your knowledge of multiplication to master the 2, 3, 5, and 10 times tables, with the help of Times Table Rockstars. We will also be learning a lot about addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We have lots of great resources to help you with your learning. Telling the time and learning about money are really important skills that we will continue to build on throughout the year.
We will have three sessions each week focused on developing reading fluency using our new books, followed by two sessions working on comprehension skills.
In writing, you will write for a variety of purposes. You will expand your use of conjunctions to extend your sentences and develop your vocabulary to make your writing more interesting. You will also use a range of punctuation to write different types of sentences.
In History, we will be learning about castles—and even visiting one! We will also explore toys from the past. In Geography we are going to be learning more about the settlements and farming in our local area before moving onto learning about Australia and finally, London.
In Computing, you will use algorithms to program a Bee-Bot to move around a map that you design.
You’ll also enjoy lessons in PE, RE, Science, Music, and Art. Jigsaw Jo will help us explore important topics during our PSHE lessons.
