In History, Year 2 have been diving into their new topic all about castles, and this week’s focus has been on comparing the floor plans of Conisbrough Castle with those of other castles. The children worked together brilliantly to explore how castles were designed and used as both homes and fortresses.
They were fascinated to discover that Conisbrough Castle has four floors, which are accessed through a series of disconnected staircases – not the spiral staircases you might expect to find in many other castles! They also learned about the castle’s strong defensive design, including its solid round towers, which were built to make it harder for enemies to attack.
Year 2 showed fantastic teamwork, using their detective skills to spot similarities and differences between the floor plans. Well done!
