Monet Art Study in Y1

Last week in Year 1, the children explored the beautiful pastel shades used by the famous artist Claude Monet in his landscape paintings. They looked closely at how Monet created soft, gentle tones to bring his scenes to life, before having a go at mixing their own colours in the same style.

Using just a tiny touch of colour in a base of white paint, the children practised making the palest pastels, discovering how small adjustments could create completely different shades. It was wonderful to see them experimenting so thoughtfully, showing great control with their brushes and real enthusiasm for colour mixing.

Their paint palettes were soon filled with soft blues, delicate pinks, and light greens – just like Monet’s masterpieces! Everyone is now really excited to use their new skills this week, when they’ll begin painting the skies for their own landscape artworks. What a talented group of young artists!
